From Jaime Forrest:
A few weeks ago I was talking with my father in law, and he told me about kids who take backpacks home on Fridays that are full of food, so that they will have something to eat over the weekends. I was floored. I couldn't believe there were that many precious kids out there who needed this. So, I contacted the lady who is the head of resources here in Lebanon. I am meeting with her tomorrow morning so she can go over all the needs for this Backpack Program, and other needs they have.
I am very sad about this, but at the same time very thankful I am in a position to reach out and help. I am taking a few of the GBG girls with me tomorrow to help her get these backpacks together for students, and to have a meeting with her.
These are kids right here in our community. These are kids that go to school with my little boy, and lots of other peoples kids. I DO NOT want my little boy to EVER treat these kids any different. And I know he and I have such a good relationship that he would be able to come to me and let me know if there were kid(s) at school who seemed to need help.
I will post more info as I get it after tomorrows meeting. I am very excited for the GBG to be a part of these kids lives and future.
Is there a Backpack Program in your community? Call around and reach out. There are plenty of people who are reading this right now, who are more than capable of donating and/or volunteering to help in your community. You just have to get up and do it! Kids need us...it is not their fault their lives are the way they are.
Bless!
